We carried out a pilot Accreditation visit in Huili School Hangzhou in September. Huili is part of the Wellington College group of schools in China and one of two in that group who run a bilingual curriculum programme for an entirely Chinese student body.
The visit was extremely successful and the Standards held up very well. Some adaptation was necessary in Standard 5 – Ethos and Values – to take into account the different context of the school whilst still retaining our emphasis on British education values in a holistic curriculum. These adapted sections proved so successful that we will draw on this experience when reviewing the wording of our Standards over the coming few months (see below).
We are extremely grateful to all at Wellington College China involved with this visit and in particular our partnership with Dr Ahmed Hussain, the Executive Director for Academics there, who is himself an experienced peer accreditor.
The rise of bilingual schools in China has been of great interest to us over the past 18 months and promises to be a growth area for our Accreditation and Compliance programme in partnership with schools there – and indeed in other countries – who meet our criteria in terms of curriculum and ethos.
Naturally, our thoughts and good wishes are with everyone in China during this critical period.
