Leadership programmes

The Institute of learning offers structured leadership programmes so that progression can be supported. All programmes are designed to prepare leaders to impact on learning and teaching.

Developing emerging leaders

This programme offers an introduction to the key principles of leadership in schools:

  • Self as a leader
  • Leading people and teams
  • Leading learning

This programme is ideal for educators new to leadership or who are seeking to become leaders.

Middle leadership: leading learning

This programme delves deeper into the leadership of people, teams and learning. Picking up on the themes introduced through the developing emerging leaders programme and drawing on experience, participants develop plans for a learning focused application project that will be implemented in school after the training.

The aim is to put into practice the content from the course through a high impact project. Progress is supported through access to resources and through the professional learning community available through the programme.

Leadership: What is your impact?

This programme builds on the middle leadership programme and is ideal for leaders who may hold whole school or cross-phase roles and are responsible for leading in strategic priorities for the school.

Participants will engage current themes in leadership and are supported in planning for, and implementing a strategically important project with a focus on impact on learning. Participants benefit from coaching throughout the implementation of the project.

Senior Leadership: Are you ready?

Leaders will be given the opportunity to reflect on their relative strengths as well as areas for development.

As part of the training participants will be provided with the opportunity to plan to stretch and challenge themselves as leaders. This will be applied through leading on a whole-school strategic priority. On-going coaching and collaboration within a professional learning community will support the development of participants.
