Language acquisition in a bilingual context

Professor Rob Coe, Evidence Based Education, is supporting the structure of research projects to undertake a detailed analysis of the impact of our bilingual model through the relative influence of the following on learning and language acquisition:

  • Approaches to co-planning and it’s influence on quality and standards
  • The extent to which immersion influences language acquisition
  • The impact of story talk on nursery pupils level of speaking in English
  • Comparative analysis of bilingual models in schools across Huili

These projects comprise working with specific school teams and drawing on monitoring and attainment/progress data to inform impact measures. Finings will be shared across Huili and used to inform policy and practice.

Implications for bilingual schools in China will be shared as part of Institute of Learning workshops and conferences across 2019-20.
